Aspex Software Licenses Explained

What is a Software License?

A software license grants the user the legal right to use a piece of software. In the same way that a television owner requires a license, a software user requires a license to use the software.

Software is protected by copyright law which states that the product must not be copied without written permission from the copyright holder.

Aspex Software License types

There are different kinds of license to use Aspex Software products:

Master User License (MUL)

Site License (SL)

Additional User Licence (AUL)

Volume Licensing

EML Licensing

What is a Master User License (MUL)?

A Master User License is issued with the original software pack granting a legal right to use the software on a single computer.

What is a Site License (SL)?

A Site License is a paper license which can either be issued with the original software or else a user may obtain one to extend the original license, granting the right to use the software on any number of computers at the registered site.

Outside the United Kingdom a school requiring a Site License will be issued a license called BSL, Building Site License.

What is an Additional User License?

An Additional User License is a paper license which extends the use of the original software product, granting a specified number of additional users the right to use the software.

What is Volume Licensing?

Volume licensing is an economical way to buy Aspex Software products at a price discounted to reflect the volume purchased.

Volume licenses can be purchased by Education Ministries and Authorities. The license to use the software will be tailored to satisfy the different requirements of each customer. Examples; Province License, Authority License, Board License, Ministry License.

What is an Education Manufacture License (EML)?

An Education Manufacture License allows an Education Authority to copy and install software onto computers destined for use in their schools.

Concurrent Use

All Aspex Software licenses are for the concurrent use of the software. In other words, if 10 students need to use the software concurrently then a ten user licence is required, regardless of the number of computers in the school.
