"I'm excited to see FabLab ModelMaker working with the Silhoutte

and the CraftROBO fabricators"

Desktop Engineering

Aspex Software has been creating children’s engineering software for over fifteen years and understanding how children learn in the STEM subjects of technology, math and engineering, is where our focus lies.

With the advent of inexpensive fabrication machines like the Silhouette (illustrated right), students can generate ideas on the classroom computer and then transform their designs into physical prototypes.

We're really excited at the possibilities opened up by digital fabrication in the classroom because until now, engineering has been expensive and severely under-represented in schools.

With a Silhouette Fabricator connected to your computer, together with a Canon Pixma 4700 printer, you'll get an inexpensive engineering workstation with a footprint small enough to fit onto your desktop!

FabLab ModelMaker

FabLab ModelMaker

FabLab ModelMaker enables 3D models to be designed by combining geometric shapes. FabLab ModelMaker will display an unfolded, segmented version of the three-dimensional shape, known as a geometric net.

The net is then printed and passed to a fabricator for trimming before being made into a physical model.

FabLab ModelMaker is an educational software from Aspex

Canon PIXMA i4700

The geometric net generated by FabLab ModelMaker is printed on

cardstock using a desktop printer.

The PIXMA iP4700 Premium Inkjet Photo Printer is ideal for this purpose, as it possesses the high-quality, performance and style needed for your classroom desktop engineering workstation.

This is a Stylish, superior photo quality inkjet printer at an unbelievably low price making it the ideal partner for your classroom engineering solution.

The Canon PIXMA i4700 can be found at Canon

Silhouette SD Fabricator

Silhouette Fabricator

The printed geometric net is processed by a Silhouette fabricator, which scores, perforates, and cuts the net to form fold lines and trim it. The scored and trimmed net is then used to build the model.

The Silhouette is a digital fabricator for personal and educational use. It connects to your computer just like a printer, but instead of printing the nets drawn in FabLab ModelMaker it scores, perforates, and cuts the nets to form fold lines and trim them.

The scored and trimmed nets are then folded and glued to build the model out of paper or card stock.

The Silhouette is available from www.silhouettemachine.com in USA

UK Schools

Schools in the UK may use the Craft ROBO CC330-20 instead of the Silhouette Fabricator.

Craft ROBO Fabricator

The Craft ROBO CC330-20 is a digital fabricator the same as the Silhouette for personal and educational use.

The neat little Craft Robo is simple to use. Its unique cutting tools ensures fingers stay safe, and using a coloured tip system allows you to change your cutting depth easily.  Using the patented cutting mat allows you to die cut shapes out of many different materials.

The Craft ROBO is available from Graphtec in the UK
