3D Design and Make

The idea the aspexTabs 3D Design & Make software is to design a 3D model on the computer screen using simple geometric shapes, and then print the nets of shapes to be folded and assembled into 3D paper models. Hence the term Design and Make.

"Take a look at these!  The structures are UNBELIEVABLE, these are made by grade five students with a science focus on structures and bridges. All the bridges are constructed from TABS nets"

The pupils pictured here were tasked to build a 3D paper model that could be used to represent the internet!

They were invited to be ‘crazily creative’, with interesting results. The mass of 3D shapes in the model below represent the network of computer networks that make up the internet.

"We embraced this unique program completely!

We used it for our week-long Summer Institute and it was the best-received strand of our technology-focused courses, which included robotics, digital video, FLASH! Animation, and Web page authoring.

Our kids loved the program and we were impressed with how readily they took to

building great models from their computer-generated designs. 

We'll be using this as a strand again this summer, now that our 21 partner school districts have

weighed in on its merit and how much the kids like it.
